Maryland Auto Accident Claims Life of Teenager

By injuheis on April 16, 2009

A Maryland auto accident has claimed the life of a 17-year-old, according to this article from Gazette.Net. Montgomery County Police are still investigating the accident but say that Thiago Andrade, 17, a former Ridgefield resident, was riding in a car when it left the road, struck a tree, and ejected him back onto the road. Law enforcement officials say that the accident occurred around 12:38 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2009. A 2003 Toyota Camry driven by a friend of Andrade’s was eastbound on Veirs Mill Road in Rockville when the Camry struck the right-hand curb, left the roadway, struck a tree, and was torn apart by the impact.

Police say that the auto accident in Maryland is still being investigated, but damage to the car was consistent with a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The name of the Camry’s driver has not been released, but officials say he was also a 17-year-old and is hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. A spokesperson with the Montgomery County Police said, “There are rumors circulating among high school students that there was a speed contest happening, and we are asking anyone with information to call us.”
