Maryland Personal Injury Lawyer

FAQs

Q: I've been injured. Why should I hire you instead of my family attorney?

A: No disrespect to your family attorney, but your family attorney most likely handles criminal law, divorce, wills, estates and personal injury. I handle ONLY INJURY CASES. My focus is on injury law 24 hours a day! As my slogan says: "If you've been injured, it makes sense to call the lawyer who handles ONLY INJURY CASES!!"

Q: I know I only have to pay you if you recover money for me on my case. I also know I don't have to pay you any fees or expenses if there is no recovery. How much can I expect to receive when my case is settled?

A: As much as I would like to "predict" the amount of money you will get at settlement, to do so early in the case is extremely difficult. There are many different factors that are considered when an insurance company, jury or judge awards money on a claim. This includes but is not limited to the nature and severity of the injuries, whether the injuries completely resolve or become permanent, the amount of property damage in an auto accident, whether you were partially to blame for the accident, whether the insurance company for the person who caused the accident typically makes "low ball" offers, what part of the state the accident occurred, and on and on and on. It is impossible to make an accurate prediction of what the case is worth at any time before the end of the case.

Q: In a Maryland auto accident or personal injury case, can I keep my case open for life in case I need future medical treatment or lose time from work?

A: Unfortunately, once you settle your auto accident or personal injury case it can not be reopened. Thus, it is extremely vital that you under go all recommended treatment and testing before you settle your case. For example, you suffer back and neck injuries as a result of an auto accident. You receive chiropractic or physical therapy treatment for several weeks but still experience pain traveling from your back down your left leg: rather then settling your case at that time I would normally recommend that you receive an orthopedic evaluation and an MRI. A MRI might reveal a herniated disc. A herniated disc injury, as a result of your accident, is a serious condition and would increase the value of your claim. Therefore it is always prudent to have all symptoms thoroughly checked before you settle. Better safe then sorry.
