Residential Fire in Arundel on the Bay, MD Claims One Life

According to an ABC 2 news report, a fatal residential fire claimed the life of a Maryland woman in Anne Arundel County. Though the victim has not been identified and a fire spokesman says only that the victim appears to be a woman in her 50s, neighbors state that there was only the woman in the home when the fire was reported by several neighbors just before 10 a.m. on July 8. The report notes that it took the responding firefighters 40 minutes to control the “intense flames,” and six hours after the fire shot through the roof, fire investigators were still sifting through the remnants of the Arundel on the Bay home. Neighbors state the woman who lived in the home was trying to piece her life back together after her husband died just six weeks before. The fatal fire captured the hearts and mind of the community as onlookers “stood in the heat and watched firefighters go to work.” A total of 50 firefighters were on the scene fighting the intense fire, and investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, though arson has been ruled out.
