Truck Collision Sends Driver off Chesapeake Bay Bridge

A 22-year-old woman was recently released from the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after surviving a collision with a semi truck that sent her car off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and into the water 40 feet below, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

The woman was traveling east on the Bay Bridge when a tractor-trailer struck her car and forced it over the bridge railing where it landed in six to eight feet of water. The woman was able to escape from her car with non-life threatening injuries and waited on nearby rocks for paramedics to arrive.

Another car was also involved in the accident; fortunately, none of the occupants were injured.

A spokesman for the transportation authority, First Sgt. Jonathan Green, said that no charges have been filed and that the accident is still under investigation. The woman’s car was removed from the water the morning after the collision.
